Ministries In Community

Entering into a community is not to be taken lightly! It is very much like a marriage or being adopted into a brand new family. There are covenants both spoken and understood which must be taken seriously and honored completely if at all possible.
It is when a new community can function in a practical sense of unity and love on a daily basis, that it will be prepared to minister to others beyond the community proper. Here are just a few ministries that can also blossom into missionary ventures:

CARE OF THE ELDERLY:
There is a huge need in the world right now for compassionate Christ centered care for the sick and elderly in the world. A community could begin by caring for their own among them and learning the best and most effective techniques and methods of care. The community could then design a practical teaching protocol and begin training students what has been learned. The graduates could then take their skills and their love of Yeshua out into a world that needs and values them in more ways than imaginable!
 
BUILDING SKILLS:
As a new community begins to grow, there will be numerous opportunities to properly demonstrate and teach various building skills to our young people and the people in surrounding communities. Working along side young people is a very good means to demonstrate Christian values and behaviors.... mentoring Christ if you will. As these apprentices or students complete their learning and develop marketable skills, they will enter the world with a means of supporting a family, a solid foundation of who they are in Jesus and a feeling of self worth, both in this world and eternally.
 
AGRICULTURE / AQUACULTURE:
The skills required to efficiently and effectively grow food is absolutely essential for any group of people or community. The off the shelf technology available for producing fruits, vegetables, fish and other meats is truly astounding and exciting. As skills and techniques are developed and proven by the community, they can be consolidated into a teaching / technology package which can be easily taken to remote villages and other inhabited areas. Here, local peoples could actually learn proven methods of easily and efficiently producing their own foods. Again, while working along side these peoples, they cannot help but see, feel and touch the very presence of our Lord as He is with us always!
I have read that a Christian group in Louisiana has developed a simple system, which can produce enough food, year round, for a family of five in a space no larger than an average parking space. Wow!
 
ALTERNATE ENERGY SOURCES:
Every serious community wanting to be " off the grid" will have to develop a host of methods to generate the various types of energy required to support whatever level of living that the community requires. Again, most of the technology has been tested and proven and easily available to anyone interested. New energy sources are being developed all of the time and many of them are best suited for an agriculturally based community. Perfecting the methods, which are simple and inexpensive and bringing, them to remote people in need can be the start of a powerful and greatly rewarding outreach to others.

ACTIVITIES

COMMUNITY GARDENS
It can be fun and quite rewarding when a group comes together to grow food for all to enjoy. This is often a time of close fellowship, fond memories and the bonding of close friendships.
 
BUILDING PROJECTS
Again, the coming together to accomplish a project for the benefit of all is a special kind of reward. To even pitch in to help a new neighbor build his community home is a blessing to everyone involved and very pleasing to the Lord. "See how good and how pleasant it is for the brethren to dwell in unity".
 
EXPLORING AND NATURAL ADVENTURE
As Belize is my calling, the opportunities to explore and investigate the great wonders of our Lord's creation is almost limitless. From crystal waters and reefs to lush rainforests, rivers and waterfalls to mountains and caves, there is much to do and see.There are also the many towns and villages filled with beautiful and interesting peoples of every tribe.
 
TIMES OF PRAISE PRAYER AND WORSHIP
The highlight of my life is when I am before my God in that place of intimate worship and praise. When I have the honor and privilege to pray for those in need, and they for me. Nothing is more inviting to the lost and lonely than to be accepted and loved by a people who can worship in Spirit and in Truth.
 
One's options for ministry and activity are really only limited by the giftings at hand and the things that the Holy Spirit puts upon your heart to do. In the church system, many of us were trained to be more or less entertained bystanders and we paid others to do the more spiritual stuff for us. In a mature and functional Christ centered community, we all are encouraged and expected to contribute and share and to give as if unto Yahweh himself! And indeed we are! " For if you have done these things to the least of mine, you have done them for me."
